As they say, “It’s a process.” It all starts with a conversation to determine what you want the product to be. We will meet with you to discuss what you want to accomplish. From there, we will come up with a proposal which will include a timeline and details as to what will be included. The final product can be as simple as you sitting in a chair and telling a story, or it can be a the complete package of you speaking, adding custom photos, aerial drone images of your land or business, researched material added to fill in the history of the story, including multiple settings, like your childhood home or current home, your birthplace, scanned photos of ancestors sand so much more.
Your first question most likely will be, “Do I need to have interview or speaking experience?” The answer is "no." We record the interview in segments and then edit the footage. In some parts of the video your image is hidden by other images, video, or graphics. We record your voice as you speak and then use our editing tools to remove unwanted breaks or piece together voice segments. We also make use of a teleprompter for those times when you want to be on camera for a longer period of time, or if you are more comfortable reading a story to the camera.
The interview can be a single person or a couple, both telling the story together, or it can be several individuals - each contributing at different times, and perhaps at different locations. We weave these various interviews in at different points in the final video so that the story you want to tell makes the most sense and is visually pleasing.
Like every life’s story, capturing every story is different.
The cost will depend on the length of the video session, the number of locations, if there is any travel involved, any additional photography needed, any images that need to be created and/or edited, and other extras that you may want to include. The base price is $1,000. But it all starts with a phone call and a planning session. We will sit with you, listen to what your project will entail and come up with a proposal and cost estimate.
So reach out and let’s start with a conversation.
A video recording session can be intimidating to someone who has never done one; the camera, microphone, strangers in the room, and the stress of just speaking can be overwhelming. It does not have to be.
We are used to recording in all types of environments with people who have spoken to groups all their lives to those who cringe at the thought of public speaking of any type. Rest assured, we can manage the session. First, we talk about the story and settle on the number of locations and speakers.
Next, we work on your content. You can speak “off the cuff” or write it all down, and we can use a teleprompter to help you tell your story. As for the recording, we record in segments to give you time to gather your thoughts and just relax.
Don’t worry about small mistakes; when we record, you just raise your hand, pause, back up, and then continue when ready. In the edit phase, we put the shoot back together with smooth transitions. For those that have images to add to the video, we add them in over your voice. While you are telling your story of your first home, for example, we overlay an image of your home.
We typically have the storyteller write down their story, and we record it straight from the teleprompter or from a written notebook, whichever you are comfortable with. We then can use that track when we are overlaying images in the final cut or use the audio if you are walking around, explaining your home, for example, and not always facing the camera. In any case, the extra audio allows us to capture your story without error.
So, be assured if you are a pro, a novice, or just plain nervous about speaking, we will guide you through the process and make it an enjoyable experience.
